Darren Ambrose backs Manchester United ace Cristiano Ronaldo to win the Golden Boot this season
According to talkSport (h/t The Mirror), former Premier League striker Darren Ambrose has backed Manchester United superstar Cristiano Ronaldo to win the golden boot this season.
The 36-year-old has enjoyed a sensational return to Old Trafford so far. He has so far bagged four goals in just three games and is by far the club’s most reliable goalscorer. As things stand, only Mohamed Salah, Michail Antonio and Bruno Fernandes have outscored Ronaldo so far.
Averaging close to 1.50 goals per 90minutes, the veteran is belying his years. It is fair for one to claim that Ronaldo’s goals could make the difference as to where United want to end up this season.
Ronaldo won last season’s golden boot in Serie A, beating the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Romelu Lukaku for the honour. It would appear that moving to United has not changed much. Ambrose believes the veteran has shown a different side to him and appears to be getting younger the older he grows.
“I see a different side to him. He looks like he’s got younger.”
Ambrose has no qualms on the issue and thinks the player will repeat the trick in the Premier League. While he is not downplaying the numbers other players have put up, Ronaldo does appear to have the knack to be at the right place at the right time.
“If you’re asking me now, I think he’ll finish as the Premier League’s top goalscorer, I honestly do.”
Ambrose goes on to add that it isn’t just Ronaldo goalscoring prowess that is capturing attention. He believes one is seeing the old Ronaldo who dazzles the audience with his fancy footwork,
“The movement he’s producing, he had one spell of play when he got the ball on the edge of the box and did about four stepovers, you ain’t seen that for a long time from him.”

Ronaldo appears to have a key role to play in United’s ambitions this season. He has proven to be a difference-maker up front this season and his goals could make an impact come to the business end of the campaign. The United superstar has won the Premier League Golden Boot once before, in the 2007/08 campaign.
