Bruno Fernandes a doubt for Manchester United against Tottenham Hotspur
Erik ten Hag has revealed that Manchester United playmaker Bruno Fernandes is a doubt to feature against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.
The Red Devils will take on Spurs on Thursday (27 April) away from home. Both teams are looking to secure a place in the top four, making the fixture an enticing match.
Speaking to the media via Manchester Evening News, Ten Hag admitted that the Portugal international’s fitness was a concern prior to the game. In the FA Cup semi-final versus Brighton & Hove Albion, the 28-year-old took a knock on his ankle.
“We have to see how Bruno Fernandes is, we don’t know yet. Is a question mark. But I think for the rest, we are quite okay.”
Fernandes played most of the fixture against the Seagulls. However, the Portuguese had to be substituted during extra time as the match went to the penalty shootout, which the Red Devils eventually won.
The attacking midfielder signed for the Old Trafford side in the winter window of 2020 from Sporting CP. Since then, the 28-year-old has been ever-present in our team.
Fernandes has been handed extra responsibility this season with the captain’s armband. While Harry Maguire is still our skipper, the centre-back has been a bit-part player in the current campaign and has lost his place in the starting lineup.
Tottenham are not in their best moment currently. They parted ways with Antonio Conte last month and recently also got rid of Cristian Stellini. Now, Ryan Mason is in charge of the North London side.
But still, Spurs are only six points behind us. Although, we have two games in hand over them. But A loss for us would make things a bit tense going into the final games of the campaign.

If Fernandes is unable to play, Ten Hag can call upon Marcel Sabitzer to play in the number 10 position. The Austrian has done well in recent weeks. Hopefully, United will get a positive result against Tottenham and the Portuguese will not be out for too long.
