According to Guillem Balague, the Manchester United player wanted to move away from Juventus for some time now. Manchester City were interested suitors as their manager Pep Guardiola may have perceived that the veteran forward could help his side score a lot more goals.

There was heightened interest in Ronaldo especially after City’s attempts to secure a move for Harry Kane were continuously turned down by the club. Juventus also seemed to want to move the player away from the club as it could balance the books. Manchester City would have to let go of one of their strong attackers to accommodate the 36-year-old but couldn’t do so in the stipulated amount of time.
