Cristiano Ronaldo sends a message to Edinson Cavani following his surrender of the number 7 Manchester United jersey
Manchester United returnee Cristiano Ronaldo has been welcomed back to Old Trafford by Edinson Cavani, who has surrendered his number 7 jersey.
One of the most iconic numbers in club history. Ronaldo sported it during his initial spell at the club. Cavani was handed the jersey last season but has now decided to relinquish it following Ronaldo’s return.
The Uruguayan sported the number for the final time in our win at the Molineux last weekend. He will now sport the number 21, the same he dons for the Uruguayan national team.
According to The Express, Ronaldo has now expressed his gratitude to Cavani for his gesture. He admits that he was unsure if the number would find its way back to him Now that it has, he is very happy indeed.
“I wasn’t sure if it would be possible to have the number seven shirt again. I would like to say a huge thank you to Edi for this incredible gesture.”
With the squad number now settled, Ronaldo will hopefully take to the field in our match against Newcastle United on 11 September. A true legend of the game will once again sport the iconic jersey.
Ronaldo spent six seasons at United, leaving for Real Madrid in 2009. He developed from a prospect to a world-class player at Old Trafford before going on to impress at Real Madrid.
The 36-year-old scored 118 goals and made 69 assists in 292 games for United during that time. He also went on to win three Premier League titles, one UEFA Champions League and also his first Ballon d’Or.
