Manchester United have called up six academy players to first-team training
According to the Mirror, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer called up six Manchester United academy stars to first-team training on Tuesday.
The Norwegian has been famous for promoting youth at the Old Trafford outfit since his arrival and has continuously given a chance to the shining starlets in the academy.
The likes of Mason Greenwood, Brandon Williams, Axel Tuanzebe, Amad Diallo, Shola Shoretire, and Anthony Elanga have all been fielded by the United boss over the last two and a half years.
Moreover, the 48-year-old also gave eight academy players their first-team debuts in the 2019/20 season, something only done by Sir Matt Busby 67 years ago. The Norwegian understands the importance of developing the youth because he has personal experience of playing alongside Sir Alex Ferguson’s famous Class of 92, which consisted of the likes of David Beckham, Paul Scholes, Ryan Giggs, and several others.
On Tuesday, Solskjaer gave a chance to the likes of Charlie McNeill, Álvaro Fernández, Zidane Iqbal, Björn Hardley, Joe Hugill, and Charlie Wellens to train with the first-team stars – a huge opportunity for the sextuple.
Solskjaer has also commented previously that a couple of the youth stars could be seen in the first-team squad in the coming years. He said (h/t Mirror):
“I think we’ve always been built on youth and young players coming through, and there’s always going to be one or two special kids coming through the youth system at Manchester United. We do have a couple who I’m sure that we will see in the next couple of years”.
