Cristiano Ronaldo could return from international duty to Manchester United sooner than expected

According to a tweet put out by Simon Stone (h/t United in Focus), Manchester United could have Cristiano Ronaldo back sooner than expected.

The 36-year-old recently put pen to paper as he sealed his Old Trafford return on deadline day. However, United fans have had to wait to see their club legend step onto the pitch as the Portuguese immediately left for international duty.

Three huge games for Ronaldo as he was on the cusp of breaking Ali Daei’s record of most goals on the international stage. However, it did not take long for the 36-year-old to break it.

Portugal played Ireland yesterday, and the United legend scored a goal in the 89th minute to break Ali Daei’s record (109 goals in international football). However, what would have excited United fans more was the second goal.

Ronaldo showed the determination to bag the winner in added time and took off his shirt to celebrate. This led to the 36-year-old being booked by the referee, ruling him out in the process for the national team’s next game against Azerbaijan on the 7th of September, according to Simon Stone (h/t United in Focus).

The Portuguese could well make the trip to play Qatar on the 4th of September as it is a friendly. However, given the fact that he might not be allowed to contest the game against Azerbaijan would be a huge boost for the Old Trafford outfit.

More Manchester United News:

The Red Devils could have their star signing back from international duty sooner than expected, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer might get some time to put Ronaldo through the paces at Carrington.

Moreover, if everything works out well for the Manchester-based club, the 36-year-old could play his first game against Newcastle United on the 11th of September– a sight the Old Trafford fans have been waiting to watch.
