Manchester United legend Gary Neville does not feel that Jesse Lingard will get a lot of minutes this season
According to an interview done on Sky Sports News on Wednesday (h/t Metro), Gary Neville talked about how he felt Jesse Lingard should have left Manchester United this summer.
The Englishman, who failed to start a single Premier League game for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last season, secured a loan move to West Ham United in January.
Lingard was sensational for the Hammers as he banged in 9 goals and provided 5 assists in just 16 appearances for the club. The Hammers’ manager David Moyes was keen on reuniting with the 28-year-old this summer after he shone for them in the second half of last season.
However, the 28-year-old failed to make a move to the London Stadium and remained at United this summer. But, given that the Red Devils are boasting a plethora of forwards in their ranks this season, game-time could be hard to come by. Gary Neville talked about the player’s situation in detail. He told Sky Sports News (h/t Metro):
“I’m disappointed for Jesse Lingard that he’s not left Manchester United. He’ll get a few games, he’ll get moments on the pitch, he’ll contribute, but I think he had something going at West Ham last year that meant Jesse Lingard in his own right was standing up as a really good player.
“To go back to being a squad player again I think, for me, is disappointing. I think you sometimes have to sort of fly the nest and go. I thought he’d already done that with what he did last year.”

While the Englishman could suffer for game-time this season, the Red Devils are involved in nearly 4 competitions this year, courtesy of which Lingard could be provided with regular playing minutes over the course of the season. However, only time well how he often he features this season.
