Manchester United are hopeful that signing Cristiano Ronaldo will convince Paul Pogba to stay put
According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United are hopeful that the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo will convince Paul Pogba to extend his current deal at Old Trafford.
The Frenchman is currently in the final year of his United contract. Attempts at getting him to extend it has so far not borne fruit. The Red Devils now have three months left before Pogba is permitted to talk to foreign clubs regarding a pre-contract agreement.
United, however, are increasingly hopeful that Ronaldo’s signing could sway the matter in their favour. They believe it is a sure show of strength that will resonate with Pogba, persuading him to stay.
United’s record signing, Pogba enjoyed a promising first season at United under Jose Mourinho. He led the club to two major trophies that campaign, the League Cup and the UEFA Europa League.
The Red Devils have endured a barren spell since and have now gone four years without a trophy. United hope to have turned a corner this summer and are keen to convince Pogba that he will be best served spending his prime years at Old Trafford.
Pogba’s agent Mino Raiola revealed last December that his client’s career at United was over. However, the summer has come and gone and the player will stay at Old Trafford for the 2021/22 season.
The Frenchman has been in stellar form so far and has made five assists in just three Premier League games. Whether he has made up his mind or not, the 28-year-old is giving his absolute best on the pitch. Hopefully a trophy or two this season will help convince him to stay put.

United have also signed Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane apart from Tom Heaton this summer. The Red Devils now have a squad that isn’t just world-class but is also blessed with strength in depth. Given the resources on offer, one will not blame Pogba if he leaves should we finish trophyless one again.
