Donny van de Beek is set to play in a behind-closed-doors match for Manchester United
According to the Manchester Evening News, Donny van de Beek is set to feature in a behind-closed-doors match for Manchester United on Wednesday.
The 24-year-old, who joined the Old Trafford outfit from AFC Ajax last October, has suffered for game-time at the club and started only four Premier League games last season.
Although he ended up making 36 appearances over the course of the season, the Dutchman played lesser than 1500 minutes for the Old Trafford outfit.
The Red Devils, who already possess the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Fred, Scott McTominay, have found it hard to provide some consistent game-time to the 24-year-old due to the existing quality in the squad.
This led to the midfielder being on the move this summer, and there were interested parties. The Dutchman’s representatives had held talks with Roma, however, club manager Jose Mourinho blocked that move as he felt the player ‘did not fit the profile’, according to Laroma24.it (h/t The Mirror)
Van de Beek had also caught the attention of Everton, and the Toffees were closing in on a deadline loan move for the 24-year-old, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer prevented the deal at the 11th hour, according to Football Oranje (h/t The Express).

His game-time issue has followed this season as he has been an unused substitute in all three Premier League games. However, the Dutchman will now get some considerable game-time in the behind-closed-doors match against Stoke City today.
A good performance could go a long way for the midfielder as he would be hoping to feature more often under Solskjaer this season. Alongside Van de Beek, Mason Greenwood, Phil Jones & Dean Henderson could also receive some much-needed game-time as Solskjaer looks to have a fully fit squad for the games post the international break.
