Bruno Fernandes express his joy at childhood hero Cristiano Ronaldo returning to Manchester United
Speaking to the club’s official website (h/t The Express), Manchester United star Bruno Fernandes has revealed that he is unable to hold back his joy at Cristiano Ronaldo returning to Old Trafford after a 12-year hiatus.
The Red Devils shocked the football world when they announced a deal to bring back the 36-year-old to the Theatre of Dreams. A fan favourite, Ronaldo’s return has been met with unanimous approval from fans.
Fernandes is one of them, having grown up admiring the Portuguese phenom. Ronaldo was his favourite player growing up and he admits that it is a dream come true to be able to share the field with him for United.
“Growing up, everyone knows Cristiano was my favourite player.”
Ronaldo’s impact on the sport has a larger impact on Fernandes than many others due to the latter also being Portuguese. It was after the 36-year-old’s rise that the Iberian giants started to step up their game.
“When Cristiano began to take his first steps in the national team, it was in the Euros in our home country [Euro 2004], so I was nine years old.”
He led Portugal to the final of the 2004 Euros, where they lost to surprise package Greece. Success was, however, in the works as Ronaldo led his nation to the 2016 European Championship and the 2019 UEFA Nations League.
“We lost the final in Portugal, we saw him crying after the final, he was a young boy who was starting to shine and from there I started to watch him.”
Nothing but the best!
A highly competitive player, Ronaldo not only gives his best but also demands the same from those around him. That elite mentality of champions appears to have rubbed off on Fernandes, who himself takes to the field with a no-nonsense approach.
“The mentality to do better day after day is really important for me. I’m improving a lot because of this, and that was my biggest motivation.”
The prospect of the Iberian duo linking up at Old Trafford is a dream come true for all United fans. The talisman of the past and the present are now set to join forces to usher in a new era of success at the Theatre of Dreams.

While United have had a talented squad under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, they have lacked the mentality to see the season through. With proven winners such as Ronaldo and Raphael Varane in the ranks, a new era could be dawning at the club. Hopefully one of success.
