Manchester United are going to approach Kieran Trippier again this summer
According to The Athletic (Subscription Required), Manchester United are set to ‘reignite’ talks with Atletico Madrid over a possible late swoop for right-back Kieran Trippier.
The Red Devils, who snapped up the likes of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund and Raphael Varane from Real Madrid, could now be on the cusp of losing one of their defenders, namely Diogo Dalot.
The Portuguese has attracted interest from Borussia Dortmund, while AC Milan are also interested in bringing the player back this season after a good loan spell last year at the San Siro. This has prompted the Red Devils to hold talks again with Atletico Madrid full-back Kieran Trippier.
The Old Trafford outfit have been keen on signing the player this summer and have made approaches to sign the player since June. The club also had a bid of £20million rejected earlier this month by the La Liga side, according to The Sun (h/t Daily Mail).
Atletico are now said to be holding out for £28million, something that might seem like a steep price for United, who have already shelled out a lot of money on signings this summer.
Talks between the two clubs had initially stopped after United liked the way Dalot performed in pre-season and planned on keeping him at the club. Moreover, given that United have already sanctioned loan deals for Ethan Laird, Brandon Williams, and Axel Tuanzebe, the club would be short in the backup options to their full-backs if the Portuguese also leaves the club.

Trippier could solve this potential problem in a jiffy as he is a highly seasoned and experienced player and has played in the Premier League before. His versatility of playing on both sides of the defence could also go on to benefit the Red Devils. However, a deal for him is said to play out only if Dalot leaves the club.
Thus, with less than a week left for the transfer window to be shut, United will have to make some big decisions soon.
