Donny van de Beek might have a future at Manchester United after all
According to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s press conference (h/t Manchester Evening News), Donny van de Beek will get some game-time at Manchester United this season.
The Dutchman, who signed for the Red Devils from Ajax last season, failed to feature consistently for the Old Trafford outfit last season.
Moreover, the 24-year-old was considered as ‘surplus to requirements’ and was expected to move this summer, according to 90min.com (h/t The Mirror). The midfielder has also featured on the bench for both Premier League games of the club.
Additionally, Louis van Gaal also left the midfielder out of his squad for the international fixtures that are coming up and felt that the 24-year-old needs to play more often at United if he wants to feature for the country.
To that end, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer cleared up all the rumours circulating around the Dutchman’s future in a press conference. Solskjaer was asked about whether Van de Beek is in his plans, and the Norwegian told the reporters (h/t Manchester Evening News):
“Donny has worked hard, he’s done really well, he will get his chances when the season gets going”.
Solskjaer also explained why Nemanja Matic was selected against both Leeds United and Southampton ahead of Van de Beek.
“We had Carabao Cup games, a game every four days, we’ve had a week every game, I can’t say any other way we made the decision when you start as well as you do you don’t wanna rotate too much, that was the decision, Nemanja started ahead of Donny.”
