Transfer News: Jesse Lingard could depart Manchester United soon
According to Football Insider (h/t Stretty News), Jesse Lingard could be leaving Manchester United soon, with West Ham United confident about signing the 28-year-old.
The Englishman had to endure a season with mixed emotions last year when he rarely featured for the Red Devils but turned it around in the second half of the season on loan to West Ham United, where he reunited with former United manager David Moyes.
The Scottish coach did his utmost to churn out the best out of Lingard, and the 28-year-old delivered for the Hammers as he scored 9 goals and provided 5 assists in 16 appearances for Moyes’ side. Although the East London club failed to secure a Top 4 place, Lingard did help the club finish 6th and attain Europa League qualification.
The Englishman’s impressive performances also led to Gareth Southgate naming Lingard in the 33-man provisional squad he selected before making the final cut. Although the 28-year-old failed to make the cut for the 26-man squad, it would have been a huge confidence booster for him.
Lingard eventually returned to United’s Carrington complex for pre-season training and featured in three out of the club’s four games, including scoring against Championship side Queens Park Rangers.
Although West Ham have made it clear all summer that they want Lingard back at the club, the Red Devils have been quick to reject any advances made by the Hammers.

However, given that the Old Trafford outfit already possess Anthony Martial, Mason Greenwood, Marcus Rashford, Daniel James, and Jadon Sancho in the winger roles, Lingard could suffer for game-time.
Moreover, West Ham are now said to have held talks again with United and are ‘confident’ of getting a deal over the line before the end of the transfer window, according to Football Insider (h/t Stretty News). Thus, the 28-year-old could soon be departing Old Trafford, in a move that could benefit all the concerned parties.
