Saul Niguez could become a Manchester United player before the end of the month

According to reports in Spain (h/t Daily Star), Manchester United are still leading the race to sign Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez despite an offer from Premier League rivals Chelsea.

The Red Devils, who already possess players like Paul Pogba, Donny van de Beek, Bruno Fernandes, Nemanja Matic, Scott McTominay, and Fred in their ranks, are keen on adding another central midfielder at the club.

Although the club have been linked with the likes of Ruben Neves, Eduardo Camavinga, Aurelien Tchouameni, Declan Rice, and Leon Goretzka this summer, the Old Trafford outfit are currently leading the race to sign Saul Niguez from Atletico Madrid.

Saul is available for £38million this summer

The 26-year-old has attracted interest from the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea this summer, with the latter also proposing a loan plus an option to buy offer to the Spanish outfit. While that may be the case, the Red Devils are still ahead of their rivals in securing the Spaniard’s signature.

Saul played an integral role in Atletico Madrid’s La Liga triumph last season, as he featured in 33 league games and scored 1 goal, and provided 2 assists from midfield. However, the player has been allowed to leave the Spanish capital this season, but a move is yet to materialize.

The 26-year-old is valued at £38million by Atletico Madrid, and if the Red Devils do manage to secure his signature, he could add a lot of quality to United’s current midfield line.

If Ole Gunnar Solskjaer does plan on winning the Premier League title this season, he will need quality players throughout the ranks and Saul will only boost their chances of competing actively on all fronts.

However, with less than a week until deadline day, United will have to make a move for the midfielder if they hope to have him in the squad on the 1st day of September.
