Manchester United star Donny van de Beek looks set to stay at Old Trafford this summer
According to The Times (Subscription Required) [h/t Mirror], Manchester United star, Donny van de Beek looks set to stay on at the Theatre of Dreams this season.
The Dutch international was the club’s marquee signing in the summer of 2020. Despite scoring on his debut, he has failed to get going and is now largely overlooked as far as the first XI is considered. He was an unused substitute in both of our Premier League games so far.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer foresees a bigger role for the midfielder this season and he could come good on his word later in the season. It could prove to be a pivotal few months for the player at United.
Van de Beek’s agents have also left the player in the dark regarding prospective offers from other clubs. The onus now appears to be on the player himself to reverse his fortunes at Old Trafford.
One of the best young players from across Europe, United looked to have pulled off a coup for the Dutchman last year. While he has largely been inconsistent, a lack of opportunities has done him little favours.
Van de Beek’s lack of playing time could cost him dear at the international level. The Netherlands are currently managed by former United boss Louis van Gaal. The veteran Dutchman is set to pick his players depending on how they perform on the pitch.
With few opportunities so far, there is much for the United star to do this season. Van Gaal already is of the opinion that the midfielder erred in the decision to move to Old Trafford. Hopefully, he will be fair when it comes to getting the job done and will not let his unpleasant sacking at United influence decisions.
