Transfer News: Manchester United could be joined by city rivals in race to sign Erling Haaland next summer
According to transfer news from German broadcaster Sport 1 (h/t Inside Futbol), Manchester United will not be alone in the race to sign Erling Haaland next summer.
The Red Devils, who will be facing the prospect of Edinson Cavani leaving next summer after his contract expiry, would be keen on signing another centre-forward.
Haaland, who has scored 62 goals in 63 games for Borussia Dortmund since his arrival in January 2020, could be available next summer. The Norwegian had attracted a lot of interest from several clubs this summer itself, but the German outfit’s £150million valuation of the 21-year-old warded away most clubs interested in signing the forward.
However, there is a supposed clause in Haaland’s contract that will make the Norwegian available for €75million next summer. Although United liked their chances of signing the player previously, that may not be the case anymore.
Premier League rivals Manchester City, who were interested in signing Spurs’ Harry Kane, are ‘expected’ to shift their attention to the Borussia Dortmund forward after Kane made it clear that he is staying in North London this season.
Thus, this would come as a blow for United, who have been keen on strengthening their forward line. Although the club have signed Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund this summer, a star-studded striker would have put the cherry on top of the exciting project under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Moreover, Solskjaer would also have hoped to reunite with his former Molde pupil, but signing the Dortmund forward does not seem so easy anymore.
While there has been nothing concrete on the player’s transfer yet, United might have to offer a very good deal to sign the Norwegian star next summer if they hope to secure the 21-year-old’s services ahead of Manchester City.
