Report: Man United rejected West Ham’s transfer approach for Jesse Lingard this summer

Jesse Lingard has tested positive for Covid-19.

Jesse Lingard might remain at Manchester United beyond the summer

According to ESPN, Manchester United have turned down an enquiry from West Ham United for Jesse Lingard last week.

The Red Devils, who have completed the signings of Jadon Sancho from Borussia Dortmund, have added handsomely to their ranks as the Englishman would provide a lot of quality to the Old Trafford outfit.

However, that has not led to the end of the road for Jesse Lingard, who might stay at the club beyond the summer amidst exit links. The 28-year-old featured scarcely for Solskjaer in the first half of last season and was eventually sent out on loan to West Ham United on a loan move for six months.

The 28-year-old was sensational for the club as he scored 9 goals and provided 5 assists in 16 appearances for the Hammers. The Englishman also helped the club accomplish a 6th place finish in the Premier League, as they missed out on a Top 4 place in the last weeks of the season.

His performances almost got him into the England squad for the Euros, but the attacking midfielder narrowly lost out on the final squad. However, Lingard did eventually return to United for pre-season training.

The 28-year-old also featured in three out of the four pre-season games United played earlier this summer, as he also managed to get on the scoresheet for the club’s 4-2 loss against Championship side Queens Park Rangers.

Although he did not make it into the squad for the club’s season opener against Leeds United, Lingard did come on for the last few minutes during the club’s 1-1 draw against Southampton on Sunday.

Thus, given that United have rejected West Ham’s advances coupled with the player coming off the bench on Sunday, the 28-year-old might remain at the club after all.
