Manchester United match Arsenal’s Premier League record of 27-game unbeaten away from home
Manchester United may have endured a frustrating night against Southampton at St Mary’s. They however return to Old Trafford having entered their name in the history books for the right reasons.
According to The Daily Mail, Ole Gunnar’s side have now gone 27 straight games unbeaten away from this. This draws them level with Arsenal’s Invincibles who managed the feat in 2003 and 2004.
Southampton however did not make it easy and nearly had our number yesterday night. Adam Armstrong put the Saints in front before Mason Greenwood drew United level in the second half.
The Saints striker missed two gilt ended opportunities to put his side ahead, sparing Harry Maguire’s blushes. The Red Devils held on but could not convert one point into three.
While getting into the history books is well and good, we could have done with the three points yesterday. The season is just two weeks out and we have already dropped two points. In light of our performance on opening day, the Red Devils have some soul searching to do.
United will not just look to get back to winning ways against Wolverhampton Wanderers next week but also usurp the record for their own. With Liverpool and Chelsea set to go up against each other, a win could see us close the gap to the top.
Ironically, however, while United have been excellent visitors, they have also been gracious hosts. Solskjaer’s side dropped several points at home last season and will need to improve upon it this time around.

United have now gone 18 years without losing at St Mary’s. The closest we came to that was last season when we were trailing 2-0 on the night. An Edinson Cavani inspired comeback saw us eventually win 3-2. Unfortunately, the Uruguayan was not available yesterday night to make the difference.
