Transfer News: Manchester United could still sign Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid
According to transfer news from MEN (h/t The Faithful MUFC), Manchester United could still secure the signing of England right-back Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid.
The 30-year-old Trippier has been with Atletico Madrid since the summer of 2019, joining from United’s Premier League rivals, Tottenham Hotspur. Since moving to Spain, the defender has grown into a key cog for Diego Simeone’s side and played a key role in their La Liga title triumph last season.
Trippier followed that up with a string of impressive displays for England at the UEFA Euro 2020. Links to Manchester United have been doing the rounds all summer long, with the Red Devils seeking cover and competition for first-choice right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka.
However, things had gone quiet of late, with it emerging that manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer could be ready to put his faith in Diogo Dalot. The Portuguese international, returning after a decent loan spell at AC Milan last term, did a good job during pre-season, potentially working his way back into the manager’s plans.
Despite that, it is now being claimed by the aforementioned report that Manchester United’s offer for Trippier is still very much on the table and they could still clinch the England international’s signing before the transfer window closes in a little over a week.

Atletico Madrid, for their part, want any suitors for Trippier to meet his release clause that stands at €60m. That makes it extremely unlikely that Manchester United will sign the right-back this summer.
While he would add value with his experience and attacking capabilities, splashing that much money on a 30-year-old makes little sense from the club’s point of view.
