Transfer News: Manchester United in talks for Aurelien Tchouameni
According to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri (h/t The Mirror), Manchester United are in talks to sign Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni in the current summer transfer window.
The 21-year-old has emerged as a key player at Monaco and made 42 appearances for them last season. His performances have also caught the attention of Chelsea who are keeping tabs on him.
United are keen on a midfielder and were linked with a move for Declan Rice. However West Ham United’s £100m has put them off and they are now looking at other alternatives.
Duncan Castles, speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast (h/t The Mirror) has revealed that Tchouameni falls well within the paradigm of players that United are looking for. The club is currently looking at young players who can develop into superstars in the years to come.
“The targeting of that kind of younger cadre of players who can develop into top stars has been more of a focus in recent years.”
It would appear that United have been in contact with the player’s agency and could make a bid for him before the window closes in a few days. Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri (h/t The Mirror) has hinted that it just might be the case.
A defensive midfielder is something that United lack at the moment. Nemanja Matic remains our lone specialist in the position and he is not getting any younger. Tchouameni is a player with massive potential and has shown he is not afraid to put in a tackle or two.
Add to it his young age and the time it affords him to reach his full potential, the Red Devils could be landing themselves a real prospect. Whether the deal will come to fruition remains to be seen.
