Mikael Silvestre: Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must lead Manchester United to glory this season
According to MyBettingSites (h/t Manchester Evening News), former Manchester United star Mikael Silvestre believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer must lead the club to success this season.
The Norwegian is currently in his third full season at the club. Despite a host of semifinal appearances and a final in the Europa League, United are yet to win a trophy under Solskjaer.
In fact, the Red Devils last won a trophy in the 2016/17 season when Jose Mourinho led us to the Europa League. To go almost half a decade without silverware is unfathomable for United. Unfortunately, it has every chance of becoming a reality and Solskjaer must end the hoodoo in this campaign.
According to the report, Silvestre has backed Solskjaer to go one better this season. He believes the manager and the players will use last seasons’ heartbreak to push them to greater glory.
“They were so close last season with the Europa League and I’m sure they’ll use that as extra motivation for this year to push them over the line.”
Silvestre goes on to add that as long as the club can clear steer of any major or prolonged injuries, they have the resources at their disposal to bring glory back to Old Trafford. A four-time Premier League champion with the Red Devils, the Frenchman is well placed to know what it takes to attain glory.
“The team has all the ingredients to win trophies and be successful, but it’s about turning up on the day and finishing the job. If they can have a season where they don’t suffer many injuries and can keep the team fit, then they can give it a good go.”
By bringing in Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane this summer, United have addressed two key weaknesses in their squad. Hopefully, with a better player XI and an improved strength in depth, we can fight on multiple fronts this season.
The Norwegian now has the tools at his disposal to win at least one major honour this season. He is running out of excuses to not do that.

Solskjaer penned fresh terms earlier this summer. It could be seen as an indication that United believe he is the man for the job. Whether he can survive another season without any trophies remains to be seen.
