Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants Manchester United to hand new contracts to five players
According to The Sun (h/t Daily Mail), Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to keep his best players at Manchester United in the long run and is urging the club to hand out lucrative new contracts.
The Norwegian is keen to see the club hand fresh deals for five players. This includes the likes Marcus Rashford, Harry Maguire, Bruno Fernandes, Luke Shaw and Paul Pogba.
The quintet was among United’s best performers last season as the club mounted a title challenge. They will have to do more of the same this time as well if the Red Devils are serious about challenging Manchester City this season.
All five players are amongst United’s top nine earners and pocket a combined £1.1million per week. Of the players named, it is Pogba whose contract needs a quick look. The Frenchman is currently in the final year of his contract and unless something is done, he will walk away for free in 11 months’ time.
Fernandes, meanwhile, has been United’s best player but is the club’s eighth best-paid player. A new contract has been in the works for a while now. However, with five years to go on his current deal it remains to be seen if anything is on the horizon.
Rashford and Shaw, meanwhile, have two years left on their deal. United, however, have little to worry about regarding the duo as they have given a scant indication of wanting to play elsewhere.
Maguire has been a revelation since joining the club and has since also taken the captain’s armband. He has significantly improved our backline and could now be set to form a formidable partnership alongside Raphael Varane.

It is imperative in the modern game that performances do not go unrewarded. The five players could form the bedrock of the core that can propel us to silverware in the seasons to come. It is essential that we compensate them suitably for their efforts. Thankfully Solskajer does not just see the need to keep our best talents together but also ensure their efforts do not go unrewarded.
