Transfer News: Manchester United backed to go all guns blazing for Erling Haaland next summer
Speaking on the Sky Sports Transfer Talk podcast, German journalist Raphael Honigstein has revealed that Manchester United will have a proper go to sign Erling Haaland next summer.
The Norwegian wonderkid is one of the best young players in the world and is already among the sport’s foremost strikers today. Adding him to our squad could give us the reliable goalscorer who could lead the line for years to come.
Haaland scored 27 goals and made six assists in 28 games in the Bundesliga last season and has so far continued from where he left off. He has so far scored five goals and assisted three more in just two games for Borussia Dortmund this season. There appears to be little to suggest he will slow down.
Just 21, the youngster’s potential is truly terrifying. He could very well turn into the best striker in the world in the years to come. While a number of clubs were keen on him this summer, Borussia Dortmund’s massive £150m asking price proved a capable deterrent.
A lot can change in a year’s time when the player’s £65m release clause becomes effective. Honigstein has stated that by extending Edinson Cavani’s contract, United have shown off their hand too early.
“I think they will push for Haaland next season. They’ll really try to make it happen.”
United have been long-term admirers of the Norwegian ace and came close to landing him in the past. However, it was not to be and Honigstein believes this should prevent United fans from getting too excited.
With him available for a rather nominal price, United are unlikely to be the only team in the fray. Whether we can finally land our man or once again miss out remains to be seen.
“The reason I wouldn’t get too excited as a Manchester United fan is because Manchester United thought they had already done a deal with Haaland last time.”

While Haaland and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer share a good relationship, it is unlikely to turn the tide in our favour. Haaland, in the end, is someone who will do what he believes is right for him. United can use the current 21 campaign to showcase the player exactly what they can offer. Whether that will be enough remains to be seen.
