Transfer News: Everton do not consider signing Manchester United star Andreas Pereira a priority
According to ESPN’s transfer blog (h/t Goodison News), Everton do not consider signing Manchester United outcast Andreas Pereira a priority this summer.
The Brazilian spent last summer on loan at Lazio where he did find playtime easier to come by. However, his performances left much to be desired and the stint in Italy was more of a miss than a hit.
Pereira’s time at Old Trafford appears to be drawing to a close and discussions have been held with Everton regarding a potential switch. The Toffees, however, have other options on the table and a move for the Brazilian is far from a sure thing.
Pereira, for his part, is keen to return to the international fold with Brazil. With the World Cup just a year away, he is intent on securing regular playtime this season. The chances of that happening at United are remote at best.
The Red Devils have the likes of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, Anthony Martial, Bruno Fernandes, Daniel James, Jesse Lingard and even Juan Mata who can be called up to do Pereira’s job. Keeping him is no more a priority and this could pave the way for a summer exit.
Brazilian side Flamengo are also in the fray for Pereira’s signature. With Everton not keen to fight tooth and nail, it remains to be seen if they will seize the initiative.
Having joined from PSV Eindhoven in 2012, Pereira failed to build upon the initial promise he showed at the club. Winner of the Denzel Haroun Reserve Team Player of the Year Award in 2015, he has failed to improve since.
Pereira has made just 75 appearances for the Red Devils in all competitions, scoring just four goals and making five assists. (h/t Transfermarkt)

A parting of the ways now seems inevitable. While United prefer a permanent move, they would be willing to approve a loan should nothing materialize.
A talented player, his inability to take his abilities to the senior level has cost him dear. At 25, he still has time left on his side and it remains to be seen if he will ever reach his potential. As things stand, that does not appear likely to happen at Old Trafford.
