Manchester United remain defiant that Paul Pogba will stay on at the club
According to the reliable journalist, Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Manchester United have not changed their plans and are keen to keep Paul Pogba at the club this summer.
The French international is currently in the final year of his contract and could leave for free next year. While there does not appear to be any progress yet on penning a new deal, United are adamant that the player is going nowhere.
One of the best players in the world on his day, Pogba’s time at United has been more of a miss than a hit. He, however, rolled up his sleeves and put in a performance to remember against Leeds United. The Frenchman made four assists on the night as the Red Devils romped home to a 5-1 win.
Despite joining the club in a much-hyped transfer in 2016, Pogba has looked like he is heading out on several occasions. He is currently linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain this summer and it remains to be seen if it will happen.
The French giants have already enjoyed a stellar window, signing Achraf Hakimi, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Georginio Wijnaldum, Sergio Ramos and Lionel Messi. Adding Pogba to the list would be the cherry on top.
Despite the rumours, Romano has revealed that United’s stance regarding the player’s future has not changed. The club has been confident of keeping the player and nothing appears to have altered their stance yet.
As things stand, United are engaged in talks with Mino Raiola to extend Pogba’s contract. While they are yet to have a breakthrough, efforts are ongoing.
The player, for his part, does not appear to have his heart set on a move elsewhere. Scant little of that has been on display on the field. But then football is a fickle sport and a lot could happen very soon.
