Edinson Cavani cleared for Manchester United training return from Tuesday
According to journalist Jonathan Shrager on Twitter, Manchester United forward Edinson Cavani has been cleared to rejoin training from the coming Tuesday.
Cavani arrived at Manchester United last summer on a free transfer after his contract with Paris Saint-Germain had run out. Upon arrival, the veteran striker made an instant impact, scoring some important goals and quickly became Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s go-to striker ahead of Anthony Martial.
Cavani ended the 2020/21 campaign with 17 goals and 6 assists from 39 games across all competitions, helping Manchester United to a second-place finish in the Premier League and the UEFA Europa League.
Having initially signed just a one-year deal, the 34-year-old extended his stay by another 12 months. However, he missed the pre-season and the start of the 2021/22 campaign due to his involvement at the Copa America in the summer with the Uruguayan national team.
The striker was given an extended break due to personal reasons, as confirmed by Solskjaer earlier this week. The Manchester United boss had also revealed that Cavani was in the country, but was currently in quarantine. (h/t ManUtd.com)
“Edi is in the country. [But] he’s just finishing off his isolation period. He’s had a little bit of extra time for personal reasons.”
Now Shrager comes up with an update on when Cavani could be back in training, claiming that the veteran striker will be cleared to join with the rest of the squad on Tuesday.

It will come as a boost for Manchester United, as they look to build on their brilliant start to the season. The Red Devils kicked off the 2021/22 campaign with a thumping 5-1 win over Leeds United on Saturday. Up next is a game against Southampton, for which Cavani could potentially be available.
