Transfer News: Atletico Madrid have received no official offers for Manchester United target Saul Niguez
According to transfer news from Spanish publication AS via Inside Futbol (h/t Liverpool Echo), Atletico Madrid have not received any offer for Saul Niguez despite Manchester United’s interest in the midfielder.
The 26-year-old is linked with an exit this summer after a La Liga-winning campaign under Diego Simeone. And Liverpool, United, as well as Barcelona have been linked with him recently.
However, with Atletico receiving no bids for him so far, the race to sign him would be pretty much open. United face uncertainty over the future of Paul Pogba amidst constant interest from PSG.
Barely any fan on the continent would be nescient of Saul’s name. The Spain international has made a big impression at Atletico over the past several years and is very much in the peak years of his career.
Saul also eyed by Barcelona and Liverpool
United, especially if they manage to lose out on Pogba in the near future, could use an experienced player like him in the middle of the park. Nemanja Matic is also not getting any younger while Juan Mata is slowly being reduced to a benchwarmer.
Fred was particularly trusted by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer last year but continues to divide opinions amongst the United faithful. In all honesty, there is no dire need for a new midfielder at the club this summer.
But Saul’s addition would add significant depth and quality to the squad. Signings like these can prove to be the difference for a team at the end of the season.
