Ole Gunnar Solskjaer talks about the future of Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba at Manchester United

Talking in an interview (h/t Mirror) before the Premier League opener against Leeds, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gave very little away regarding the futures of Manchester United duo Anthony Martial and Paul Pogba.

The 28-year-old midfielder has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford this summer. And PSG were keen on getting him in until they signed Lionel Messi.

Pogba’s agent, Mino Raiola, has also tried to stir the pot and pushed for the player to seek an exit from the club. But Solskjaer believes that the former Juventus man, with just a year left on his deal, knows what the club wants from him.

“He is a Manchester United player, one year left on contract. Every conversation and discussion is a positive one. He knows what we want. It’s always like this with Paul, he’s a media magnet.”

Martial’s future is also not clear. Doubts have persisted over his status as United’s No.9 after a poor goal-scoring season last time around, and the club’s options in Edinson Cavani, Mason Greenwood, Jadon Sancho, and Marcus Rashford.

But the Norwegian manager says that the ex-AS Monaco hitman is an asset to the United team, and admits that interest from other clubs is unsurprising considering the 25-year-old’s abilities.

“I wouldn’t be surprised if other teams targeted Anthony because he is a very good player. Back strong and hungry to prove his quality. You can see that grit between his teeth again, he is up for the challenge. We are happy that we have him.”

United can use a new striker that can future-proof their attack. Cavani isn’t getting any younger, while Rashford has often found himself on the left flank. But if Martial wants to lay claim to that position, this season would be crucial for him.
