Ole Gunnar Solskjaer expects Jadon Sancho and other attackers to help Bruno Fernandes
Speaking in an interview before the Premier League game against Leeds (h/t Sky Sports), Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said he expects attackers such as Jadon Sancho to ease the goal-scoring burden on Bruno Fernandes’ shoulders.
United completed the £73million signing of the English winger earlier this summer. And he joins the Red Devils from Borussia Dortmund as the club’s third-most expensive signing in history.
Last season, Fernandes was United’s top scorer in the Premier League by some margin, scoring 18 goals. Marcus Rashford was 7 goals behind and Edinson Cavani got himself 10 as well.
But now, Solskjaer believes that his forwards will chip in with more goals, with the addition of Sancho being helpful in that regard.
Solskjaer trusts his attackers
“Anthony (Martial) will score more goals than he did last season, Mason (Greenwood) will develop, Edinson (Cavani) started late last season so will score more goals, Jadon will come in and chip in with goals so I feel confident that the burden is not just on Bruno to score.”
Martial, in particular, was poor in terms of finding the net in the last campaign. The 25-year-old ex-AS Monaco striker chipped in with just four league goals, but Solskjaer is hopeful of seeing improvement this time around.
“Last season was disappointing but I am very confident in what I see from Anthony. I like what I see from him in training, what I see in the gym. He has the bit between his teeth again.”

Sancho would add dynamism to United’s team down the right-hand side and would undoubtedly be a welcome addition in the attack. However, it remains to be seen if he can replicate his Bundesliga form in the unforgiving English Premier League.
