Paul Pogba, Bruno Fernandes star in Manchester United player ratings vs Leeds
Manchester United got their season off to a flying start against Leeds United, as Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes score a perfect 10 in our player ratings from the game.
The Red Devils took the game to Marcelo Bielsa’s Whites from the get-go and their pressure paid off when Bruno opened the scoring at the half-hour mark.
Luke Ayling’s 48th-minute equalizer mattered for very little as United went on to score 4 more goals, with their Portuguese playmaker bagging a hat-trick. And now, we look at who shone the brightest in United’s opening day demolition of their rivals.
Manchester United Player Ratings
David de Gea: 8
Had little to do but was on hand to deny Mateusz Klich to keep the score level at 0-0. Apart from that, he was solid and did not make any spills or howlers, but there was nothing he could do about Ayling’s leveller.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka: 6
The right-back failed to make a big impression on the game and was caught between his desire to attack and his natural tendency to defend- leading to him being caught out of position a few times.
Harry Maguire: 8
Was a solid presence in defence and commanded the defence well. Could have done more for Ayling’s goal but was good apart from that moment.
Victor Lindelof: 8.5
The Swede was impressive on the ball and looked the better of the two United defenders. An impressive performance which could be bad news for Raphael Varane.
Luke Shaw: 7.5
Shaw was a constant threat down the left flank and was rarely ever caught of position in defence. A complete performance that is constant with his UEFA Euro 2020 displays.
Fred: 7
Had a strong second 45 and got himself on the scoresheet. Good showing and the Brazilian repaid Solskjaer’s trust in him.
Scott McTominay: 7.5
The Scotsman showed great sturdiness and looks completely fit after his fitness issues earlier this year. Solid partner for Fred but did not do anything to grab the headlines.
Paul Pogba: 10
Grabbing four assists is always a performance to remember. Was simply majestic on the ball and ran the midfield. Perfect performance.
Bruno Fernandes: 10
A hat-trick for the Portuguese superstar. First and second goals especially were sublime and he looks ready for the new season.
Daniel James: 6
The Welshman was not impressive and fans can look forward to Jadon Sancho’s inclusion in the squad sooner rather than later. His decision-making was disappointing as well.

Mason Greenwood: 8.5
The youngster looks more mature than his age and was showing why he deserves a place in the starting XI week in week out. Scored as well, which is always a bonus.
