Transfer News: Doncaster Rovers eyeing Ethan Galbraith loan from Manchester United

According to @reluctantnicko on Twitter (h/t The News), Doncaster Rovers are interested in signing Manchester United youngster, Ethan Galbraith, on a season-long loan deal.

The Red Devils are also keen to hand the 20-year-old midfielder some important first-team minutes. Galbraith, a central midfielder, was brought to United’s famed academy from Linfield in 2017.

Since then, he has made himself a regular for the U18 team, and later, the reserve squad. The Northern Irishman has never gone out on a loan spell as of now, and only has one senior appearance to his name.

Those two minutes of first-team football came in November 2019 against FC Astana in a UEFA Europa League Group L game, which the Red Devils lost 2-1.

Galbraith headed out on loan?

The only other time he was named on the bench for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s senior side was earlier this year, when United played Real Sociedad in the second leg of their round-of-16 UEL tie after a 4-0 win in the first leg.

Galbraith has shown potential, which is why he’s still at a club like United and earned two caps for his national team at such a young age. His first appearance came against Luxembourg in a friendly before he played against Romania in a UEFA Nations League B match.

There is a very slim chance that he would see consistent first-team action at Old Trafford this season. The team is already stacked with midfielders like James Garner and Donny van de Beek struggling for first-team minutes themselves.

In such a situation, it makes sense for him to go out on loan and get a taste of first-team football. Doncaster Rovers play in League One, the third tier of English football, and finished 14th in the league last season.
