Dimitar Berbatov urges Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to make one more addition to his Manchester United squad this summer
Speaking to Betfair (h/t Express), former Manchester United star Dimitar Berbatov has urged Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to make one more addition to his squad this summer.
The Red Devils have already signed Tom Heaton and Jadon Sancho this summer and are close to landing Raphael Varane. Sancho and Varane solve two key weaknesses in the United squad that had gone unaddressed for years.
There is still time for the club to make a few more moves in the market and Berbatov, for one, believes they need to do just that. Having been part of multiple Premier League triumphs at Old Trafford, the Bulgarian is well versed as to what makes a title-winning side.
The former United ace is keen to see Solskajer reinforce one key position in the time left this summer. Bringing in a reliable backup to Aaron Wan-Bissaka would be a handy addition going into the new season.
“The United team is in a good place. They could possibly look to strengthen in the right-back position.”
The Red Devils have certainly enjoyed a window that far exceeds the intent we have shown in recent years. Bringing in another right-back would certainly be the icing on the cake. To put it in Berbatov’s words, it is what Solskajer needs to complete his team.
“Aaron Wan-Bissaka is definitely first choice but I would like to see him have a solid back up who will challenge and push him. Other than that, I think they are pretty complete as a team.”
United have been heavily linked with a move for Atletico Madrid full-back Kieran Trippier all summer. However, the Spanish champions are not ready to play ball. Whether a resolution can be found in the upcoming weeks remains to be seen.
Even if we do miss out on Trippier, all is not lost. In Diogo Dalot, we could have an in-house solution to our woes. The Portuguese ace has not just improved during his spell at AC Milan but has also shown himself to be versatile to play on both flanks. There is no reason why he cannot push on and challenge Wan-Bissaka this season.

While bringing in players is well and good, it is too quick to call us a ‘complete’ team. Whether that is the case or not will become clear when our new signings take to the field. Hopefully, we will have more hits than misses.
