Joseph Oluwu handed trial at Manchester United after Arsenal release
A report by Manchester Evening News mentions that Manchester United have handed a trial to Joseph Oluwu after the defender’s release from Arsenal in the summer.
The 21-year-old Englishman has come through the youth ranks at the North London outfit and went on to make regular appearances for their U18 and U23 sides. But he was let go by the club this summer.
And United, in a bid to strengthen their youth outfit, handed him a trial match when Man United’s U23 played out a 2-2 draw against Kidderminster Harriers. He played 57 minutes and United did not concede with him on the pitch.
Oluwu left Arsenal having made no senior appearances for Mikel Arteta’s side. However, he enjoyed two separate loan spells at Cork City and Wealdstone FC.
Oluwu has his chance
It remains to be seen if he was impressive enough for Neil Wood’s side to be handed a deal at the club. While the reserve side is no senior team, it has always been brimming with talent.
Hannibal Mejbri, Charlie McNeil, and Shola Shoretire are just some of the names plying their trade with the U23 outfit currently. And impressive performances for them has opened up a clear pathway for many players straight to United’s first team.
Oluwu would be hoping he is one of such players in the future, but that is something that can only happen if he is handed a deal at the club.

Will Fish and Di’Shon Bernard have departed on loan spells and Teden Mengi is also expected to head out in order for game time. This could mean that Wood’s side has a spot opening up in their defensive line which the Ibadan-born Oluwu can fill.
