PSG to turn their attention to Manchester United stars Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard if they fail to sign Lionel Messi
According to the Express, PSG are set to shift their attention to Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba and Jesse Lingard if they fail to sign Lionel Messi. PSG are the frontrunners in the race to sign the Barcelona superstar, who has left the Catalonia-based club after 21 years. However, if PSG cannot sign Messi, they will intensify their quest to sign Pogba.
The Paris-based club have been interested in signing the Frenchman all summer, but talks seemed to have been delayed once Pogba returned to Manchester United’s first-team training earlier this week. Additionally, PSG head coach Mauricio Pochettino is also interested in helping Pogba rediscover his best form in his homeland.
However, the Frenchman is not the only United player PSG will try to lure to the French capital. According to Le Parisien (h/t Express), Paris Saint-Germain will also try to sign Jesse Lingard.
Lingard, who fell out of favour with Solskjaer, enjoyed an excellent six-month loan spell with West Ham United last season. The Englishman scored 9 goals and provided 5 assists in 16 appearances under David Moyes last season as helped the Hammers to a sixth place finish in the Premier League.
To that end, Moyes was keen on bringing Lingard back to West Ham this summer but on a permanent transfer. However, Lingard has expressed his desire to stay at Old Trafford and fight for his place. Moreover, following the 28-year-old’s return to form, Solskjaer has confirmed that Lingard is in his plans for this season.

While this scenario will play out only if PSG fail to sign Messi, it remains to be seen whether Solskjaer and Manchester United will let the duo of Pogba and Lingard leave this summer, especially since they hope to challenge for the Premier League title again this season.
