Brandon Williams is set to depart Manchester United on a loan move this summer
According to The Athletic (h/t Mirror), Brandon Williams is set to leave Manchester United on a loan move this summer, with Norwich City favourites to sign the youngster.
The Canaries are interested in a move for the 20-year-old, who remains United’s third-choice full-back. Moreover, the player has also made it clear that he wants to leave on loan this summer despite the injury to United’s second-choice full-back in Alex Telles, who is said to be out until September with an ankle injury.
The Englishman made his Premier League debut for the Red Devils back in 2019 when he came on as a substitute against rivals Liverpool. Last season, Williams only made 4 league appearances for the senior team, which was far fewer than the 17 he made in the 2019/20 campaign.
Moreover, while Williams is primarily a left-back, he did provide cover for Aaron-wan Bissaka in the right-back role last season. Additionally, he has also started in all three pre-season games for the Red Devils this season, with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer earmarking Williams as cover for the injured Alex Telles.
Solskjaer recently gave an update on the extent of Telles’ injury:
“Unfortunately, it’s worse news on Alex Telles than we hoped for. His ankle injury is a little bit more severe than we hoped and he’ll be out for a little spell at least, the whole of August I would think.
The Norwegian also mentioned how pleased he is with Williams in the left-back role.
“That is football. We’ve got kids wanting to play of course. Brandon has done well in the left-back position.”

Williams was only denied a mid-season loan move last campaign after the club sold Timothy Fosu-Mensah to Bayer Leverkusen and loaned Ethan Laird to MK Dons. However, he might just get his loan this summer, and some consistent game-time at a Premier League club could do a world of good for the 20-year-old.
