Why Anthony Elanga is missing from Manchester United’s pre-season
According to the Manchester Evening News, Anthony Elanga has not travelled with the Manchester United squad for their pre-season training camp at St. Andrews in Scotland due to a minor injury.
The 19-year-old has featured in each and every pre-season game for the Red Devils this season, including scoring in United’s 4-2 defeat against Championship club Queen Park Rangers and the club’s 2-2 draw against newly-promoted Brentford.
The Swede, however, did not travel with the squad to Scotland due to a “minor problem” and the 19-year-old is now believed to have received treatment at United’s Carrington training complex this week.
There was a minor confusion when Elanga appeared on a social media post at the start of the week on United’s channels. However, it was later cleared that those from Pennyhill Park, where United were based their first pre-season training camp last month. Additionally, United are also posed with the problem of deciding on whether to keep or send Elanga out on loan this summer.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said last week that the decision to keep the 19-year-old or let him leave on loan was a ‘big one’, and with the transfer deadline shutting close on the 31st of August, the Norwegian will have to make a decision soon. Solskjaer said:
“He (Elanga)’s giving me a great problem if you like. Players who score goals, who’ve got that enthusiasm, that energy. If you ask him at half-time to run over to the cricket ground and get us a drink, he’d do it. He’s that type of lad”.

Thus, with only over three weeks left until the end of the transfer window, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will have to make some big decisions regarding Anthony Elanga’s future this season at Manchester United.
