Transfer News: Manchester United receive fresh hope in Erling Haaland chase
According to The Express, Manchester United have received a boost in signing Borussia Dortmund forward, Erling Haaland, next summer.
The Red Devils have had the Norwegian on their radar all summer, but the player’s £170million valuation has made it quite difficult for any club to sign him during the current transfer window.
Moreover, United officials are also said to be ‘excited’ by the fact that Chelsea have missed out on the signing of Haaland this summer, who have now shifted their attention to former Manchester United player, Romelu Lukaku.
United would be fully aware that Erling Haaland is believed to be available for nearly £67million next summer due to a clause in his contract – a number that might appeal to United more than the sum being quoted during this window. Signing the player next summer would also bode well for the Red Devils, as their current centre-forward, Edinson Cavani, is expected to be a free agent by 2022.
Haaland scored 41 goals in 41 appearances last season, courtesy of which several clubs have been interested in signing the player. Eurosport’s Dean Jones talked about Erling Haaland’s situation on The Football Terrace Podcast (h/t The Express). He said:
“It hasn’t quite come through as far as Chelsea hoped it would by now, I think it would be fair to say. Borussia Dortmund will be closing the door at the end of the week because they need to focus on the new season. Erling Haaland knows that he has so many options open to him next summer. Man United, by the way, are becoming quite excited by all this – the fact that Haaland might still be on the market next summer.”

Thus, Manchester United could still have a chance to sign Erling Haaland next year amidst all interest in the player this summer. The fee would be much more reasonable but there exists a possibility of other clubs swooping in for the Norwegian international until then.
