Manchester United might earn profits from Chelsea move for Romelu Lukaku
According to The Telegraph (h/t Mirror), Manchester United could benefit financially should Romelu Lukaku join Chelsea this summer.
Chelsea, who are desperate to sign a proper centre-forward this summer, have shifted their attention to Romelu Lukaku after the Blues found it hard to negotiate a deal for Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland.
Lukaku joined Inter Milan from Manchester United two years ago in a £64million move after spending two seasons with the Red Devils. However, his move to Italy came after he struggled to convince that he could score the goals that would help United win the Premier League title.
The Belgian has since been brilliant for the Nerazzurri, as he helped them win the Scudetto last season by scoring 24 goals and providing 10 assists in 36 Serie A appearances, courtesy of which Chelsea are interested in the player.
Given Inter Milan’s poor financial state, they could be forced into the sale for Romelu Lukaku this summer – a move that could benefit Manchester United.
According to The Telegraph (h/t Mirror), Inter Milan are holding out for a fee in the range of £100million for Lukaku. However, Manchester United could earn nearly ٗmake £5-£6million from this deal as they included a sell-on clause when Lukaku joined the Italian outfit.
According to the sell-on clause, United would be entitled to between four to five percent of any future sale of the player, something which is looking incredibly likely.
While £5million may not be a huge fee, it could help United in several ways, including some of their summer transfer targets. The Red Devils have already completed the signings of Tom Heaton and Jadon Sancho this summer with Raphael Varane too on his way, while they are also targeting Kieran Trippier from Atletico Madrid.
