Transfer News: Manchester United offered €30m for Kalidou Koulibaly
According to transfer news from Italian journalist Carlo Nesti (Area Napoli h/t Sport Witness), Manchester United had made an offer of €30m for Kalidou Koulibaly, who was keen on a move to Old Trafford.
A stalwart for Napoli for a number of years now, Kalidou Koulibaly is no stranger to links with Manchester United. Just like Raphael Varane, who is soon going to arrive, the Partenopei defender has been constantly mooted as a transfer target for the Red Devils. (h/t Sport Witness)
However, prior to Manchester United agreeing on a deal with Real Madrid for Varane, it is now being claimed that they had tried to bring in Koulibaly again and had even offered up a sum of €30m. Furthermore, Nesti also adds that the defender himself was keen on making the move to a prestigious club like Manchester United.
But the offer was quickly turned down by Napoli’s eccentric president, Aurelio De Laurentiis. Nonetheless, Koulibaly’s willingness to join Manchester United is interesting and could leave the Italian outfit open to future approaches from other clubs.
“Luciano Spalletti is convinced of the goodness of the staff at his disposal and has accepted with conviction the Aurelio De Laurentiis’ proposal. For the coach, however, there are two thorns to face and overcome. The first concerns Kalidou Koulibaly. Manchester United have offered €30m to Napoli.
“Aurelio De Laurentiis said no to the proposal of the English, but the footballer said he was open to the possibility of going to play at such a prestigious club. There could be some new assaults on Napoli for the Senegalese.”

While Koulibaly is a top defender in his own right, Manchester United do not really need him at the moment. With Varane arriving to partner Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof, Eric Bailly for backup, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer should have his backline sorted for next season.
