Transfer news: West Ham United eye minimal chances of signing Manchester United forward Jesse Lingard
According to Sky Sports (h/t Daily Mail), West Ham United believe that they only have a 10% chance of signing Jesse Lingard from Manchester United this summer.
Lingard, who spent the second half of last season on loan at West Ham United, is of major interest to the Hammers this summer. The 28-year-old made 16 appearances for the Hammers last season as helped the club secure a 6th place finish by scoring 9 goals and provided 5 assists in the same period.
This also led to Lingard being a part of the England squad during the warm-up games prior to Euro 2020. However, the Englishman was not selected as a part of the 26-man final squad, but it did help him to get some rest ahead of the new season.
He has featured for Manchester United in their pre-season games against QPR and Brentford as he scored a goal in United’s 4-2 win against the Championship outfit and also played 76 minutes against the newly-promoted Premier League side.
Moreover, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has talked about how Lingard will be a part of his plans after United beat Derby in a friendly last month. He said:
“Jesse has come back, been bright, he wants to fight for his place, and there’s nothing better than seeing players want to fight for their place.
“What he did towards the end of last season, that’s the true Jesse, that’s what we know he’s capable of, and I think we saw towards the end that we lacked some options at times. Jesse is in the plans at the moment”.
Thus, in what would be a blow to West Ham United, Jesse Lingard might end up staying at Manchester United beyond this summer.
