Transfer News: Sheffield United eyeing Manchester United youngster James Garner
According to Sun (h/t Yorkshire Live), Sheffield United are eyeing Manchester United youngster James Garner in a loan move this summer.
The Blades are yet to buy a player in the transfer market since they were relegated from the Premier League this season. Since then, Slavisa Jokanovic has taken over the managerial helm from Chris Wilder.
And he is looking to make Garner his first signing at Bramall Lane. The 20-year-old midfielder has also been linked with Chris Houghton’s Nottingham Forest, where he was on loan for the second half of last season. (h/t Yorkshire Live)
United are said to be open to a loan move for the youngster. He spent the last campaign on loan at Watford and Forest respectively, making a total of 40 appearances in the Championship.
Garner in demand
A loan move would suit Garner because of the competition in United’s midfield right now. Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Scott McTominay, and Fred are all at the top of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s pecking order.
The fight for minutes is so intense that last summer’s signing, Donny van de Beek, has been struggling for starts under the Norwegian. Amidst this, Garner’s best bet seems like gathering experience elsewhere.
And that would help in his development for when space opens up in the Red Devils midfield. This won’t be the first time that the Blades are linked with a loan move for a United player.
