West Ham still keen on Jesse Lingard despite £30m Manchester United demand
According to transfer news from IB Times, West Ham are still keen on signing Jesse Lingard. Manchester United are said to be asking for £30million, which West Ham cannot stump up. However, there is the belief that the figure being quoted is higher than what United are actually asking.
Lingard’s loan spell at West Ham was a hugely successful one. At one point it looked as if the 28-year-old would single-handedly carry West Ham to the top four places. While they did fall short in the end, Europa League qualification was still ensured as Lingard capped off one of his best-ever seasons. Following that, he has now returned to United.
Over the pre-season, Lingard has been one of United’s most standout players, scoring a goal in the loss against QPR. Nonetheless, Lingard might just find himself on bench duties once the likes of Fernandes and Sancho come into the fold.
West Ham are understood to retain an interest in signing Lingard on a permanent deal. However, there are still questions over the £30million asking price from United which West Ham cannot pay. Jack Rosser from Evening Standard explained the situation.
“There’s been reports of Man United wanting 30 million, which I think by my understanding is significantly higher than what they’re asking for. But if that were to be the case, I don’t think Moyes would pay it. He’s got that sort of attitude that, you know, ‘it’s not his money and he wants to spend it carefully.’”
