Man United ‘regret’ handing superstar a bumper contract back in 2019

Manchester United regret handing David de Gea expensive deal back in 2019

According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United regret handing David de Gea an expensive contract back in 2019. He was given a staggering £375,000-a-week deal that saw him become the club’s best-paid player. However, regrets are now coming to the fore from United’s decision-makers as they struggle to tie down Pogba to a new deal.

There are not a lot of superlatives left to describe David de Gea’s time at Manchester United. The big Spaniard has time and again saved United from precarious positions with his spectacular saves. However, for the first time in a decade, his position has come under scrutiny.

If one were to be honest, De Gea has become error-prone in recent seasons. His lapses have cost United dearly. Over the last season, Dean Henderson took the mantle of the No.1 and safe to say he made enough of an impression to keep his place in the side for the league games.

United have regrets over expensive De Gea deal

The problem for United is not only that De Gea is earning £375,000 a week and warmed the benches for the second half of the season. However, it is the fact that they are in a similar situation with Pogba much like they were in 2019 with De Gea. The Spaniard’s lucrative contract means that other stars want a similar scale of pay when United are trying their best to keep wages in check.
