Transfer News: Napoli reject Manchester United offer for Kalidou Koulibaly

According to transfer news from Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Sport Witness), Napoli have rejected the offer Manchester United had made for Kalidou Koulibaly. United had seemingly gone in with a €30m bid for the Senegalese defender. However, that was slapped right off the bat by Napoli chief Aurelio De Laurentiis.

The 30-year-old Senegalese star was once one of the best defenders in the world. However, recent seasons have seen him fall off that radar a bit given how Napoli have performed during that time. Despite that, interest in him remains high.

Manchester United are pursuing a deal for Raphael Varane as they try to add a defender to their ranks for next season. However, it would seem that the Real Madrid star is not the only central defender on United’s radar. The Red Devils are also trying to get Kalidou Koulibaly if a deal for Varane collapses.

United are believed to have gone in with a €30m offer for Koulibaly. That offer was straightaway rejected by Napoli president Aurelio de Laurentiis. While he is not seen as an indispensable asset, he will not be sold for cheap. He is said to be valued at around €50m.

The feasibility of a deal for Koulibaly looks rather difficult given the increased valuation by De Laurentiis. United could be served better if they focus those funds on other positions of need such as the midfield. Quite how serious United are about this deal for Koulibaly will need to be kept an eye on.
