Transfer News: Manchester United to make an approach for Antoine Griezmann
According to transfer news from Spanish outlet Sport (h/t Express), Manchester United are keeping tabs on Antoine Griezmann. The French forward has doubts over his future at Barcelona and could be sold due to their financial problems. However, United will only go after Griezmann if the conditions are feasible.
A top-class forward, Griezmann was among the best in the business during his time at Atletico Madrid. He was an industrious presence in Diego Simeone’s hard-working side who could score as well as create goals in equal measure.
However, an expensive move to Barcelona in 2019 has not gone as he would have liked. He has failed to replicate the form he showed prior to his move and has been more of a peripheral figure at the club. Now with Barcelona looking to trim their wage bill, Griezmann’s name has landed on the chopping block.
Barca have ruled out a sale to Atleti as they want to avoid the scenario with Luis Suarez. This is where United could come in and make a move provided the conditions are right. The Red Devils have other deals for the likes of Raphael Varane, Kieran Trippier, Eduardo Camavinga and Declan Rice in the works and it is unclear when they will be able to turn their attention to Griezmann.

This is perhaps a deal that Manchester United need not be looking at right now. The club have enough players to play in the striker role and adding another name would be a misuse of funds. United would do well to pass up on this interest of theirs and focus on some defensive signings.
