Transfer News: Manchester United keen to sell Phil Jones; no takers available
According to transfer news from MEN (h/t Express), Manchester United are keen to offload Phil Jones but are finding no suitors for the defender. United are trying to get rid of some deadwood from the squad and recoup some funds to facilitate new arrivals. However, the forgotten 29-year-old is proving to be unsellable as no interest has been generated in Jones.
It has been a busy start to the transfer window for Manchester United. Tom Heaton has already been signed while Jadon Sancho is close to being announced officially. United are still said to be working on a few more names. Two deals that appear to be rather close are that of Varane and Trippier.
However, the number of further arrivals will depend on United’s ability to sell players that are not a part of Solskjaer’s plans. One name that United are looking to get off their books is Phil Jones (h/t Express). That is proving to be a challenge for the club as no club seems to be interested. Jones is still on a hefty wage packet of £75,000-a-week.
Jones has become somewhat of a forgotten man at United these days after last featuring for the side in January 2020. Since then, injuries and fitness issues have kept him out of action for close to one-and-a-half seasons. Every time it looked as if he was close to featuring, there was some complication.

Getting Jones off the books is necessary for United at this stage. His injury history means that he is unlikely to be in Solskjaer’s plans. It is also hard to find a suitor for him due to the same reason. All United can hope is that they can sell him somehow.
