Liverpool trying to hijack the deal for Manchester United target Eduardo Camavinga
According to Daily Star, Liverpool are looking to hijack the deal for Manchester United target Eduardo Camavinga. United have been after the 18-year-old French sensation for a while now. However, Liverpool are looking to pip Manchester United by contacting his agent over a deal.
The Rennes starlet holds some distinguished records. Signing his first professional contract in 2018, Camavinga became the youngest player ever to do so with Rennes. He made his debut for the first-team in April 2019 against Angers. So far, Camavinga has made 82 appearances for Rennes, scoring twice and assisting five in the process (h/t Transfermarkt).
Manchester United are looking to add a new midfielder to the side as the current options apart from Fernandes and Pogba leave a lot to be desired. A natural central midfielder, Camavinga can also be used deeper in a defensive role. The problem for Rennes is that his contract ends in a year and they either have to sell him now or lose him for free in 2022.
While United had taken an interest in Camavinga, it would seem Liverpool are trying to play spoilsport. The Reds have established contact with Camavinga’s agent Jonathan Barnett over a possible move. They have a good relationship with the agent after he facilitated a move for Ibrahima Konate, which could push Liverpool into a better position for Camavinga.
