Manchester United get their hands on Raphael Varane.

Transfer News: Manchester United could sign Raphael Varane for a cut-price deal

According to transfer news from Express, Real Madrid could be willing to accept a lower fee for Raphael Varane from Manchester United. A £35m deal could be on the cards, provided add-ons of about £8m are included which could be easily fulfilled.

Manchester United have dived headfirst into the transfer market. Deals for Tom Heaton and Jadon Sancho are done. However, that does not mean United are done bringing in players. The club are pushing ahead bullishly for Real Madrid star Raphael Varane.

Real are in a bit of a spot, with Varane in the last year of his current deal. They will have to sell him this summer or for free in the next. United are hoping to take advantage of the same and sign the player they have kept an eye on for a while.

United are not keen to pay more than what’s needed for a player in the last year of his deal. Now, it seems they won’t have to. Real Madrid are willing to accept £35m for him up front with £8m in add-ons. Those add-ons would be rather achievable, such as Varane playing a certain number of games for United and being called up to the France squad.

This does come as good news given that United could effectively be looking at an outlay of £43m for a world-class defender still in his prime. There is still hope for Real to keep hold of Varane but there is also the factor of risking a free transfer next season. United are looking to get this deal done as they eye some trophies under Solskjaer.
