Manchester United could be set to make a move for Harry Winks

According to The Express, Manchester United may need to part with players in order to land Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks this summer.

With Jadon Sancho almost in the bag, the Red Devils are now turning their attention to other areas of the pitch. One of the positions that needs reinforcement is the midfield. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is ready to part ways with his preferred two-man pivot and could shift to a one-man holding formation instead.

Fred and Scott McTominay may have excellent engines and can score the odd goal. However, they do lack the required ability to make an impact going forward. Moreover, it would also appear that Solskjaer does not trust them to do a job as the lone holding midfielder either.

Nemanja Matic is not getting g any younger while Paul Pogba is wasted in the role. Hence the Red Devils may have no option but to dip into the market for a solution.

While Winks is just one of the players under consideration, he could also be one who is available. The 25-year-old fell out of favour under Jose Mourinho and must now impress new manager Nuno Espirito Santo. However, he is still held in high regard at Tottenham and could command a sizeable fee from United.

The signing of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg last summer did Winks no favours. It limited his opportunities and he ended up making just 30 appearances all season. This also saw him miss out on the England squad for the Euros. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Winks was linked with a move to United earlier in the summer. According to that report from Express, an offer of £25m could be enough to tempt Spurs into selling the England international. Whether that is truly the case remains to be seen.
