Chelsea enter the race for Manchester United target Eduardo Camavinga
According to The Express, Manchester United face competition from Premier League rivals Chelsea for Rennes wonderkid Eduardo Camavinga.
The 18-year-old is amongst the best young talents in European football and looks set for a bright future in the game. With just a year to go on his current deal, a number of teams including United are monitoring the player’s situation,
The Red Devils have a keen interest and a bid for the teenager is considered imminent. However, Chelsea could end up making a late move to pip us to the French ace. The Blues have made a number of astute buys in the transfer window in recent times and this could be yet another one of those.
According to the report, Chelsea could make use of Petr Cech to land Camavinga. The club’s former goalkeeper and current technical and performance advisor is a huge fan of the player. A former Rennes ace himself, he retains contacts at the French side and could put that to good effect to land Camavinga.
Cech played a role in Chelsea landing Edouard Mendy last summer. It remains to be seen if he can work his magic for a second successive year, this time to land Camavinga. Given his age and potential, it will be nothing short of a coup for the European champions.
United meanwhile do not have an established point of contact with the French side. Whether this hands Chelsea the initiative remains to be seen.
Can’t afford a failure
Bringing in a new midfielder is critical for the Red Devils. With Paul Pogba and Donny van de Beek facing uncertain futures, further reinforcements are critical. Camavinga is certainly a player who can be a solution for us in the long term.
Despite just being 18, the teenager is a regular for Rennes and has made 82 appearances, scoring twice and assisting five more for the Ligue 1 side. He has also made his debut for the French senior side, a statement considering the talent they have at their disposal. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Given his contract situation, United could land the youngster for a cheaper price this summer. Given his ability, United would be wiser to do all they can to land Camavinga. Having lost out on Jude Bellingham last summer, we cannot afford to let another wonderkid slip through our fingers.
